We welcomed a very special visitor to assembly today when Andy McConnell came along to launch our Aspirations Week.

Andy explained how he had studied English, History and Art and how important these subjects are to him on a daily basis. He has always liked to write, and wrote articles for a newspaper when he was 19 years old. From there he moved onto Rock Music Journalism, living in California for four years and touring with rock bands.

He told the children that they should work out what they want to do and go for it!

In 1977 he met Guntre Kramm who wanted Andy to buy some glassware for him in England. Andy said he knew nothing about glass, but was willing to learn. That was the start of his passion.

Today he is a published author and has featured regularly on the Antiques Roadshow since 2004.

We hope that the children left the assembly really inspired and thinking about just what they could achieve if they really go for it!
