Welcome to the Barracudas Class page
We are a Year 3 & 4 class.
Dear parents,
Thank you very much for supporting your children during the last eight weeks of remote learning. Now that we have returned to school, we will post the weekly timetable with work we do in class for those children who need to self-isolate and are well enough to continue their education. You can find in the Learning This Term section. Please upload completed work to your child's portfolio on ClassDojo. Please take a photograph of each piece of work separately or you can scan it. If you have an iPhone or iPad you can use the Notes App (open a new note, press the camera button, the option to scan document will pop up. Once the document is scanned you can email it easier than a photo, plus you can add notes to the scanned document).
Best wishes,
Mrs. Mamoany

Learning activities Term 5
We are continuing our ‘Traders and Raiders’ topic, however this term we will be focusing on Vikings!
After nearly 400 years of Anglo-Saxon invasions and rule, a new threat landed on Britain’s shores. A fierce group of invaders, known as Vikings, began to attack Britain, and a new struggle for power and land soon followed.
Are you ready to shine a light on the dangerous and deadly Dark Ages…?
Our core value this term is resilience.
Our core texts this term are ‘The Littlest Viking’ by Sandi Toksvig, ‘Vikings in 30 seconds’ by Philip Steele and ‘How to be a Viking’ by Cressida Cowell. We will begin the term by learning about poetry, specifically tanka and cinquain poems. Then, we will be using the book ‘The Littlest Viking’ to write about an event from different points of view. Finally, we will be using the books ‘How to be a Viking’ and ‘Vikings in 30 seconds’ to write a book review.
In science lessons, we will be learning about states of matter. We will be comparing and grouping materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases.

Reading
Buster Book Club will be returning. The children can send in their reading minutes on Thursdays via ClassDojo. Please only send your reading record in on a Thursday so that we can check them, then they will come straight home that day.
- Take turns to make plans and predictions before reading: ‘I wonder if… what do you think?’ ‘You think… Oh, I thought…’
- Recap to check ideas and understanding as your child is reading: ‘So, you think that…’ ‘Did you expect…to happen?’ ‘Why do you think that happened?’
- Use encouragement and praise to keep children engaged in reading: ‘What brilliant ideas…let’s see what happens.’ ‘You thought so carefully about... What might happen now?’
- Share prior knowledge and past experiences that link to what is being read: ‘Have you learnt about…at school?’ ‘Do you remember when we watched…and found out about…’
- Tune-in and listen to your child – be curious about their interests: ‘I didn’t know you knew so much about…’ ‘I love reading stories about...with you.’
At school we use the Reading Rainbow to give children a reading focus (a lens to read with) and sentence starters to answer questions.
Spellings
Please continue to read and spell as many of these words as you can. Try setting yourself a challenge for 10 words per week! These are the Year 3/4 statutory spellings.
