Welcome to the Barracudas Class page!
We are a Year 3 & 4 class.
Dear parents,
Thank you very much for all your support with home learning this past week and for all your feedback. We have made some changes to make it easier for children to be independent in their learning and for you to help your child(ren).
Government guidelines state that a minimum of three hours of home learning is required to be completed daily by your child(ren). As a school, we would like to encourage you to do at least the following:
Timetable expectations in KS2:
Daily Times Table Rock Stars (20 minutes)
Daily Reading Eggs (30 minutes)
Daily maths (45-60 minutes)
Daily English (45-60 minutes)
Weekly: Science, Geography/History, PSHE, Computing, French, Music, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation (GPS)
Please upload the work your child has completed in their ClassDojo portfolio, so I can give feedback. Please take a photograph of each piece of work separately or you can scan it if you have an iPhone or iPad using the Notes App (open a new note, press the camera button, the option to scan document will pop up. Once the document is scanned you can email it easier than a photo, plus you can add notes to the scanned document).
Please note, as mentioned in the newsletter, there is no need to print off any sheets or lesson slides. We expect children to copy and complete the work neatly on a piece of (lined) paper as they would in class. If you need login details for ClassDojo or need help accessing it, please contact the school office.
Best wishes,
Mrs. Mamoany
Dear Parents and carers,
Starting on Monday 11th January, Jane Considine will be delivering daily English lessons at 9:45am (GMT) on her YouTube channel and Facebook groups. Please spread the word to let as many parents and children know.
At Rye Community Primary School, we deliver the same 'Sentence Stacking' approach that Jane Considine will be teaching so this is a good opportunity to see how we teach writing in school.
We will trial these sessions for the next two weeks and will continue if staff and parents feel they have been successful.
These sessions are for children in Year 2,3,4,5 and 6 so you can have the whole family sitting together working on the same English all at once. You will only need a pencil and some paper.
Please follow the links below to join the sessions each day.

Jane Considine has built an info page for the #LiveLessons that will answer any of your queries here https://www.janeconsidine.com/live-lessons
We are looking forward to seeing the results of the children's writing each day
note: These are extra to our English lessons not instead of them

Reading
Buster Book Club will be returning. The children can send in their reading minutes on Thursdays via ClassDojo. Please only send your reading record in on a Thursday so that we can check them, then they will come straight home that day.
- Take turns to make plans and predictions before reading: ‘I wonder if… what do you think?’ ‘You think… Oh, I thought…’
- Recap to check ideas and understanding as your child is reading: ‘So, you think that…’ ‘Did you expect…to happen?’ ‘Why do you think that happened?’
- Use encouragement and praise to keep children engaged in reading: ‘What brilliant ideas…let’s see what happens.’ ‘You thought so carefully about... What might happen now?’
- Share prior knowledge and past experiences that link to what is being read: ‘Have you learnt about…at school?’ ‘Do you remember when we watched…and found out about…’
- Tune-in and listen to your child – be curious about their interests: ‘I didn’t know you knew so much about…’ ‘I love reading stories about...with you.’
At school we use the Reading Rainbow to give children a reading focus (a lens to read with) and sentence starters to answer questions.
Spellings
Please continue to read and spell as many of these words as you can. Try setting yourself a challenge for 10 words per week! These are the Year 3/4 statutory spellings.
